Astilbe chinensis Visions in Red P.W.
Chinese astilbe Vision in Red P.W.
A magnificent variety of perennial astilbe, distinguished by its airy pink-red flower spikes, supported by red stems above bronze-green foliage. This plant forms clumps of finely divided foliage that create a striking contrast with its spectacular flowers. The flower spikes appear in late spring and early summer, attracting pollinators like bees and butterflies. Water regularly to keep the soil consistently moist, but avoid excess stagnant water, as it can lead to root rot. Ensure the plant receives enough water during dry periods, but make sure the soil is well-drained. Apply a balanced fertilizer in spring before new growth begins. Astilbe does not require excessive fertilization, but a light application of compost or organic fertilizer can promote abundant and healthy blooming. After flowering, you can cut back the faded stems to encourage new growth and maintain a tidy shape. This will also extend the blooming period and improve the overall appearance of the plant. In winter, leave the dead stems in place to protect the roots from the cold. Cut them back in early spring before new growth begins to keep the plant clean and well-shaped.
