Cornus sericea Stolonifera
Redosier Dogwood
Cornus sericea Stolonifera is a vigorous shrub valued for its colourful foliage and stems. In winter, its bright red or orange stems add a dramatic touch to the garden, especially after the leaves have fallen. Its small, clustered white flowers appear in spring, followed by bluish berries in summer. This dogwood is ideal for garden borders, hedges or as a bedding plant. Water regularly during dry spells to keep the soil moist. Prune hard in spring, just before new growth begins, to encourage better stem colour and a compact shape. It can be pruned annually to maintain its shape and vibrant appearance. Apply a layer of mulch around the base to protect the roots during harsh winters. Leave the stems intact in winter to enjoy their bright colour and prune them back in early spring.
