Red Baron Japanese Blood Grass

A spectacular ornamental plant, highly prized for its stunning red leaves. This variety is known for its ability to change colour as it grows. In spring and early summer the leaves are green, but as the season progresses they gradually transform into a bright red colour that becomes more intense in autumn. ‘Red Baron’ is a perennial that forms dense, elegant clumps, perfect for adding colour and movement to beds, borders or even in pots. A sunny position will encourage the intensity of the red colours. This plant is relatively drought tolerant once established, but it is important to maintain regular watering during hot periods to support its growth and bright colours. Apply a balanced fertiliser in spring to stimulate healthy growth and encourage the appearance of the red colour. It is advisable to protect the roots during harsh winters with a layer of mulch to prevent frost. Pruning should be carried out in early spring, before new growth appears. Cut back dead or damaged stems to ground level to encourage vigorous growth.
