Youngstown Creeping Juniper

A prostrate, spreading variety of juniper, prized for its bluish-gray-green foliage that maintains a beautiful hue throughout the year. This juniper is ideal for rockeries, borders, or as a ground cover because of its ability to spread horizontally while remaining compact. Its slow, dense growth makes it an excellent choice for creating a robust and attractive ground cover. This juniper is very drought tolerant once established, and requires little maintenance. Moderate watering is recommended for the first few years to encourage rooting, but once mature, it can tolerate poor soils and low water levels. It will tolerate harsh winters, but a layer of mulch around the base can protect the roots from deep frosts for the first few years. Pruning is generally little needed, except to remove dead or distorted branches. Light pruning in spring may be done to maintain a neat shape and ensure dense, uniform growth.
