Larix decidua Pendula
Weeping European Larch
An elegant weeping larch variety, distinguished by its pendulous branches and finely deciduous foliage. Its foliage, bright green in spring and summer, turns a beautiful golden colour before falling in autumn, bringing a touch of brightness to your garden. Its pendulous shape makes it a remarkable choice as a solitary tree or to create spectacular visual effects in a garden. It can tolerate poorer soils, but regular watering is necessary during the first few years to encourage its establishment. Once mature, it is quite drought tolerant. Fertilising in spring with a balanced fertiliser is recommended to encourage vigorous growth and good production of new shoots. This larch is hardy and well adapted to cold climates, but it is important to protect young trees from cold winds or severe frosts during the first few years. Apply mulch around the base to protect the roots. Pruning is generally little necessary, except to remove dead or damaged branches. You can also prune lightly to control the shape and size of the tree, but this should not interfere with its natural hanging form.
