Magnolia x Susan
Susan Magnolia
A small ornamental tree known for its beautiful, deep purple-pink, tulip-shaped flowers. The flowers appear in spring, before the leaves, creating a striking contrast to the bare wood. This magnolia is an excellent choice for medium-sized gardens or as a focal point in a border. Its early flowering, accompanied by a subtle fragrance, makes it a popular choice for adding colour to your garden in early spring. Water regularly, especially during dry spells, but ensure that water does not stagnate around the roots. A balanced fertiliser applied in spring can support its growth and flowering. It is advisable to protect young trees from severe frost by mulching around the base. Pruning is not usually necessary, except to remove dead or misdirected branches. If you must prune, do so immediately after flowering to preserve flower production the following year.
