Ribes Alpinum
Alpine Currant
A small, vigorous and hardy shrub, valued for its decorative leaves and its ability to adapt to various soil types. It produces clusters of small, inconspicuous but attractive yellow flowers in spring, followed by red berries that ripen in summer. These berries attract birds, although they are not edible to humans. The foliage is light green, turning yellow or red in autumn, providing a colourful spectacle in the late season. It is particularly resistant to cold and drought once established, making it an ideal plant for low maintenance gardens. It can be used to form low hedges or borders. In terms of pruning, it only requires light maintenance after flowering to maintain a neat shape and encourage good growth.
