Pyrus communis Harrow Sweet
Harrow Sweet Pear Tree
A variety of pear tree highly prized for its sweet and juicy fruit. The pears are medium to large in size, with a smooth greenish-yellow skin that turns golden as the fruit ripens. The flesh is melting and sweet, with a pleasant texture, ideal for fresh consumption, but also for jams, pies or preserves. This pear tree is self-sterile, so it is recommended to plant it with another variety of pear tree that flowers at the same time to ensure cross-pollination. ‘Harrow Sweet’ usually begins to produce fruit about 4 to 5 years after planting. Regular watering is essential, especially during flowering and fruit growth, but care should be taken not to overwater to avoid diseases related to excessive humidity. Pruning is carried out in late winter or early spring, to remove dead branches and promote good air circulation, thus contributing to an optimal harvest.
