Malus Dolgo
Dolgo Crabapple
A ornamental fruit tree, valued for its white flowers in spring and small red apples in late summer. These fruits, although acidic, are used to make jellies, jams or drinks. The tree has a compact, rounded shape, making it ideal for small gardens. Its flowering in spring is followed by abundant fruiting, attracting birds and pollinators, as well as providing visual interest throughout the year. Regular watering is essential, especially during dry periods, and mulching around the base can help maintain moisture and protect the roots. Applying a balanced fertiliser in spring can support its growth and fruit production. In winter, it can tolerate quite low temperatures, but additional mulch around the roots is recommended to protect against severe frosts. Pruning should be carried out in late winter or early spring, before the vegetation begins, to remove dead or misdirected branches. You can also prune lightly after flowering to maintain a compact shape and encourage better fruiting.
