Pyrus communis Anjou
Anjou Pear Tree
A variety of pear tree widely appreciated for its medium to large, oblong-shaped fruits with smooth green skin that turns yellow when ripe. The flesh is soft, juicy and slightly sweet, ideal for fresh consumption, as well as for cooking and making compotes or jams. This pear tree is self-sterile, meaning that it requires another variety of pear tree to ensure cross-pollination and good fruit production. It usually begins to produce fruit about 4 to 6 years after planting. It requires regular watering, especially in dry periods, but it is important not to overwater to avoid root rot. Pruning is done in late winter or early spring, before the vegetation starts, removing dead or weak branches and lightly trimming the structure to encourage healthy growth and better fruit production.
