Picea Glauca
White Spruce
A fast-growing conifer with short, evergreen needles, prized for its pyramidal shape and imposing appearance. Its needles are light green to blue-green, slightly prickly. It produces cones, which are the reproductive structures of the conifer, rather than fruits like flowering plants. These cones are long and cylindrical, usually 5–10 cm long, and are light brown when ripe. They appear in spring and ripen in autumn. This conifer is particularly prized for its hardiness and tolerance of cold winters. Once established, it is relatively drought-resistant, but requires regular watering during the growing season to promote good growth. It requires little maintenance, but light pruning may be done to maintain a neat shape and encourage vigorous growth.
