Malus domestica Melrose
Melrose Apple Tree
An apple variety known for its large, round fruits, with red skin streaked with yellowish-green, and firm, juicy, sweet flesh with a slight tartness. The apples are excellent for fresh eating, cooking, and baking. This cultivar produces consistent harvests and stores well. Self-sterile, it is recommended to plant it with another apple variety that flowers at the same time (such as ‘Golden Delicious’) to ensure effective cross-pollination. It generally begins producing fruit about 4 to 6 years after planting.
Care:
Water regularly during dry periods, especially in the first few years. Apply a balanced fertilizer in spring to support growth and production.
Pruning:
Prune in late winter or early spring to remove dead wood, loosen the canopy, and encourage more abundant fruit production. This also promotes the overall health of the tree.
