Prunus domestica Blue Damson
Blue Damson Prune Tree
A plum variety known for its small, dark blue fruits with slightly tart skin and firm, greenish-yellow flesh that is very flavorful. Ideal for making jams, jellies, pies, or preserves, the fruit is not very sweet when raw but develops its full flavor when cooked. The tree is productive, hardy, and tolerant of various climatic conditions. Self-fertile, it does not require the presence of another plum tree to produce fruit, although cross-pollination can increase the harvest. It generally begins producing fruit 3 to 5 years after planting.
Care:
Water regularly in the first few years and during periods of drought. A balanced fertilizer in spring supports good growth.
Pruning:
Prun lightly in late winter or early spring to remove dead wood, loosen the canopy, and encourage fruit formation. Avoid heavy pruning, which can weaken the tree.
