Nectarine Hardy Red
Hardy Red Tree
Vigorous and hardy, ‘Hardy Red’ produces bright red fruits with sweet, juicy yellow flesh, offering a flavor close to peaches. Its pink flowers appear in spring, attracting bees and other pollinators, heralding the summer harvest, which typically begins in mid-summer. The fruits are perfect for eating fresh, in desserts, or making jams. This variety is self-fertile, allowing a single tree to produce fruit. However, planting another nectarine with a similar bloom time can improve both yield and fruit size through cross-pollination. For care, lightly prune during dormancy (late March to early April) to remove dead wood and encourage flowering. Water regularly during dry periods. In winter, protect the base of the trunk with a thick mulch and provide shelter from cold winds.
