Prunus cerasus Montmorency
Montmorency Cherry
A variety of sour cherry highly prized for its small, bright red, firm and juicy cherries with a tart taste, perfect for making jams, pies, jellies and other desserts. This cultivar is one of the most widely grown for processing, thanks to its distinct flavour and good productivity. Self-sterile, it is recommended to plant another variety of cherry that flowers at the same time to ensure cross-pollination. It begins to produce fruit about 3 to 4 years after planting. Water regularly, especially during dry periods, but avoid excess water to avoid root rot. Pruning is done in late winter or early spring, before vegetation resumes. Remove dead or weak branches to improve air circulation and promote vigorous growth.
